Sometimes ago one of my friend in Asia asked me, what is the size of an American Comic? I guess since it is not popular in Asia which shelf is mostly Manga from Japan, a lot of people here probably never even actually hold one in their hands before. So I took a shot of comparison photo with a thing that’s familiar with everyone. Its actual size is about 26 cm x 17 cm.
The printing of American comics evolved with progression of time as the printing in the late and early 90’s aren’t vivid and rich with colors. During late 97 to 98 I noticed that they have skim down the thickness of paper and painted with gloss that felt like a wax is all over the paper this style of printing made reading difficult as it will reflect light in certain angle, it was popular application in magazine at that time too. But thank God that DC and Marvel made printing style changes after 1999.
Attached are photos of Uncanny X-Men penciled by my favorite artist “Jim Lee” you can see how printing has progressed and the way comic books looks so different now with so much more richness in colors and clarity.
